The EDDL international standard IEC 61804-3 is managed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). An international work group reviews the standard periodically to ensure EDDL the device integration technology meets the constantly evolving demands of the industry.

A United States national standard ANSI/ISA-61804-3 (104.00.01) is managed by the International Society of Automation (ISA). It mirrors the IEC standard.

A European regional standard EN 50391 is managed by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). It mirrors the IEC standard.

The Interest Group for Automation Technology in Process Industries (NAMUR) has a recommendation NE 105 with requirements on device integration technology which was used as a basis for developing the graphical enhancements to the original DD technology from 1992, introduced in 2006.
