A Visual Difference

In its original form from 1992, EDDL did not support any graphics. Back then, EDDL was just a list of parameters, a simple table with columns for parameter name, value, and unit. There was little or no organization of the information. However, after international standardization as IEC 61804, graphics and structure was added. Graphical elements include trend charts, waveform graphs, gauges, horizontal and vertical bar-graphs, histograms, and images. It is the device developer that decides what is displayed in the control system.

EDDL Evolution

The below examples illustrate how the enhancements to EDDL has made it easier to use and possible to support more sophisticated devices as device developers can build their expertise into the user interface.
